John Michael Talbot Summary (pdf)
DownloadJohn Michael Talbot is one of the most prolific and beloved Catholic musicians in the world, with over 4 million albums sold, 53 recordings, and music featured in hymnals across denominations. Known for his peaceful, spirit-filled concerts and retreats, John Michael blends rich musical talent with deep spiritual insight to renew hearts and rebuild the Church—one parish at a time.
John Michael began his music career as a teenager touring with the country folk-rock band Mason Proffit. After the band disbanded, a profound spiritual journey led him into the Christian music scene and eventually to the Catholic Church, deeply inspired by the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.
He became a Catholic in 1978 and soon founded The Brothers and Sisters of Charity, an integrated monastic community based at Little Portion Hermitage in Arkansas. His ministry now reaches far beyond the monastery, as he travels across the country offering concerts, retreats, and parish missions that blend music, teaching, and prayer.
John Michael has received numerous honors including Billboard’s #1 Christian Artist, a Dove Award, and the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He continues to record, write, and minister, bringing hope and renewal to audiences of all backgrounds.
“We are rebuilding the Church one parish at a time, and renewing hearts one life at a time.”
